"Surrendering is Not an Option"
"Surrendering is not an option"
So, what does it mean "to surrender"? Is surrendering good? What will be its benefits?
Surrender, defined in the dictionary, is to "cease resistance to an enemy or opponent and SUBMIT to their AUTHORITY."
Hearing the word "surrender", gives you pictures of robbers surrendering to the police or the Japanese forces surrendering to the American forces or Jerry surrendering to Tom or maybe, the simplest picture of all, a white flag. When I was a child, I would always give in to a lot of things– most especially to sweets. Whenever my mom and I would go to the mall, I would always ask her if she could buy me 2 donuts of my liking. And at that time (I don't know if it's still the same today), Dunkin Donuts was the first store that we would pass by in a mall in Ortigas. It has become a part of my life and because of it, I had to go to my dentist every now and then to get my teeth checked.
Over the years, I have committed a lot of mistakes. And one of those mistakes was surrendering to my vices. I first held a cigarette when I was in my senior year of high school and drank a lot of alcoholic beverages during that time as well. Reality speaking, it's easy to surrender to things that give you temporary pleasure (e.g. cigarettes and alcoholic beverages). It's easy to surrender to things that are eye-catching (e.g. pornography and nude magazines). It's easy to surrender to things that make you happy and make you feel that you're on cloud-9 (e.g. weeds and drugs). And most of all, it's easy to surrender to relationships.
I am guilty. I admit it. I thought I was happy, but I wasn't. My attitude and behavior showed why; I never had Christ in my life. I knew Him, but I never experienced Him. I prayed, but I never had faith. I prayed because they only told me to. Until I entered college, everything changed, and finally, I decided to raise the white flag.
Then Jesus told his disciples, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it." - Matthew 16:24
To start a new life in Christ is easy, but the life itself after it is hard. The verse on top says, "let him DENY HIMSELF." When you deny yourself, it basically means that you are saying NO to your old life, and saying YES to Christ. It also means that you are putting God in control. He becomes the Master of your life.
Take up his cross and follow me. The cross is the symbol of pain, death, and love. This means that you are willing to walk in the footsteps of Jesus Christ, no matter how painful or how hard the situation is and submitting to the will of God.
For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. When you surrender your life to Christ, you will notice changes. You will see your old self and you will realize that everything is really possible with God (even if you think that your problems have no answers, God will provide them).
Is surrendering good? Yes. But only, if you surrender to God.
What will be its benefits?
1.) When you surrender to Him, you will not count on temporary pleasure because you will know that there is eternal pleasure waiting for you in heaven;
2.) The only eye-catching person you will see is Jesus Christ;
3.) The joy that you will experience will give you this unique feeling of completeness, and,
4.) You surrender to God, your relationship with the person you love will dramatically change because you will now understand that is not what you do for Christ, but it is what Christ has done for you.

So the next time you hear, "surrendering is not an option", think again.
